ADHD and Literacy: Strategies that Actually Work for Reading, Writing and Oracy

05 Feb 2027
This practical session explores how ADHD affects reading, writing and oracy through attention, working memory, processing, task initiation, language and comprehension. It explains why some pupils can express ideas verbally yet struggle to write, why reading may become exhausting and how talk can bridge the gap into literacy. Drawing on classroom experience, neurodiversity training and real pupil examples, Stephanie shares practical strategies to reduce overwhelm, strengthen reading stamina and comprehension, support writing structure and build confidence. Attendees will leave with adaptable approaches for primary, secondary and specialist settings that support ADHD, AuDHD and dyslexic learners while benefiting the whole class.
