AAC Essentials: Building Communication Rich Classrooms

05 Feb 2027
Many learners with speech, language and communication needs use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) to learn, participate and express themselves. This practical seminar introduces aided language and explains how AAC can be embedded into everyday classroom routines. Drawing on evidence, case studies and school-based practice, delegates will consider how learners develop language through AAC and how communication partners can support progress. The session shares practical strategies for modelling language across the school day, helping staff create communication-rich environments that promote participation, engagement and inclusion. It is suitable for mainstream, inclusion base and specialist settings, with approaches staff can use immediately.
