Transition

This practical session will explore how best to support the transition from Primary to Secondary school for all children, with a particular focus on the specific challenges faced by students with SEND. This transitional period can be a time of anxiety for students and parents alike, but can also represent a time of enormous opportunity in making new friends and forging a new, more positive sense of self and belonging.

Target audience who should attend this seminar: SENCO's / Leaders, Practitioners / Support Staff / Parent & Carers

Learning outcomes:

1. Understand the potential challenges faced by all students transitioning from Primary to Secondary school.
2. Recognise how specific additional challenges may impact on students with SEND.
3. Share tips and experiences on supporting all children to complete a successful transition to Secondary school.
4. Understand how the move to Secondary school can offer huge opportunities for children to develop a clearer sense of self and belonging.

Related policy/ guidance/ strategy: The session will draw upon my own extensive research in the field of educational transitions as well as related SEND policies.
