From Trauma to Inclusion: Embedding Therapeutic SEMH Support Across the School Community

This session explores how trauma-informed, therapeutic approaches can be embedded into everyday school practice to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Grounded in a Whole School SEND approach, it offers practical strategies for creating emotionally safe, inclusive environments. Participants will reflect on how to integrate relational, trauma-aware support across the school community to improve outcomes and wellbeing for all learners.

Target audience who should attend this seminar: SENCO's / Leaders, Practitioners / Support Staff / Parent & Carers

Learning outcomes:

  • Identify key principles of trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches for supporting SEMH needs.
  • Explore how these approaches can be embedded into whole school SEND practice and culture.
  • Apply practical strategies to create emotionally safe, inclusive environments for all learners.
  • Reflect on their school’s current provision and identify areas for development.

  • Reflect critically on current school practice and identify areas for development, supporting Standard 4: Plan and teach well-structured lessons and Standard 1: Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils.
