Oracy and SLCN
Oracy is a robustly evidenced approach to support the learning and thinking of children across the age range.
This session will outline what is meant by Oracy and how children with SLCN may struggle to access the benefits of Oracy teaching.
It will then go on to explore how, with careful adaptation, Oracy can be a powerful tool to enable both identification and support for children with SLCN.
Target audience who should attend this seminar: SENCO's / Leaders, Practitioners / Support Staff / Local Authority Staff
By the end of this session you should be able to:
- To understand what is meant by Oracy
- To understand how children with SLCN might struggle to access aspects of Oracy teaching
- To understand how focusing on Oracy can help with identification of children struggling with spoken language
- To have a range of strategies to support children with SLCN to effectively engage in ‘exploratory talk’ to support thinking and learning
- To have a range of strategies for adaptation of dialogic teaching so that children with SLCN can more easily access learning
