Developing an inclusive and respectful approach to social, emotional learning
This presentation explores how inclusive social and emotional learning (SEL) empowers all children—regardless of background or need—through adaptive teaching. It highlights five evidence-based strategies from the Education Endowment Foundation and practical tools like visuals, assistive technology, and flexible grouping can nurture and support. Delegates are encouraged to reflect, refine practice, and collaborate using frameworks like the Universal Design for Learning to embed equitable SEL across diverse educational settings.

By the end of this session you should be able to:
1. Understand the principles of inclusive social and emotional learning. Delegates will be able to explain how inclusive SEL supports emotional and social development for all learners, including those with SEND and diverse backgrounds.
2. Identify and apply adaptive teaching strategies. Delegates will explore five evidence-based strategies recommended by EEF and demonstrate how to embed them in SEL activities using scaffolding, flexible grouping, and assistive tools.
3. Reflect and plan for equitable practice. Delegates will assess current SEL approaches, identify barriers, and develop actionable steps to ensure every pupil feels seen, supported, and included.
